Before You Start

  • Order at least 14 days ahead. Flowers arrive cold, a day or two before your event.
  • Prep the day they arrive: recut each stem about 1 in. at an angle, strip leaves that would sit in water, and let them drink in cool water with flower food for at least 4 hours.
  • Keep flowers cool and out of direct sun until you build. Don't put orchids in the fridge.
  • Soak floral foam the right way: float it and let it sink on its own. Never push it under.
  • Stem counts are estimates. Fuller designs use more, and lighter designs stretch further.

Aisle Chair Posies

Aisle Chair Posies with orange spray roses

Made with: 300 Orange Spray Roses
Uses: about 30 chairs, 10 stems per posy · Skill: Easy · Time: 1½–2 hours

What you'll need: green floral tape, ribbon 1–1½ in. wide (about 2 ft per chair), sharp clippers or rose strippers, buckets, scissors.

Steps:

  1. Prep the roses: remove thorns and leaves from the bottom two-thirds of each stem. Cut 1 in. off at an angle and let them drink for at least 4 hours.
  2. Build one posy: hold 3 stems together and add the rest one at a time, turning the bundle so it ends up round. 10 stems per posy, forming a small dome.
  3. Tape it: wrap floral tape tightly right under the blooms, about 3 in. down, stretching as you go.
  4. Trim: cut all stems to the same length, about 6–7 in. total.
  5. Store: stand finished posies in a bucket with about 2 in. of water.
  6. Attach: wrap ribbon over the tape and tie the posy to the aisle-side post of each chair with a bow. Let the tails hang.
  7. Line them up: hang every posy at the same height, level with the top slat.

Tips: build the posies the morning of and hang them last. On a hot day, keep them in shade until the last 30 minutes. Use 15 per posy on about 20 chairs for a fuller look.

Tall Orchid Vases

Tall Orchid Vases with blue dendrobium orchids

Made with: 300 Blue Dendrobium Orchids
Uses: about 20 tall vases, 15 stems each · Skill: Easy · Time: 1 hour

What you'll need: 20 clear glass cylinder vases (12–16 in. tall), sharp clippers, flower food, a pitcher.

Steps:

  1. Prep the orchids: cut ½ in. off each stem at an angle and stand them in water with flower food at room temperature.
  2. Fill each vase about halfway with cool water and a little flower food.
  3. Measure: hold a stem against the vase so the lowest blooms sit just above the rim. Cut to that length.
  4. Arrange: add about 15 stems per vase, tallest in the center and the rest leaning outward.
  5. Turn each vase so the fullest side faces the guests.
  6. Place them on cocktail tables, the bar, the welcome table and the sweetheart table.

Tips: the orchids are dyed, so a little color may tint the water. That's normal. Use 10 stems per vase for a lighter look and about 30 vases. These can be made the day before; top up the water in the morning.

Shepherd Hook Aisle Jars

Shepherd Hook Aisle Jars with hot pink spray roses

Made with: 300 Hot Pink Spray Roses
Uses: about 20 hanging jars, 15 stems each · Skill: Easy · Time: 1½ hours

What you'll need: 20 shepherd hooks (4–5 ft), 20 mason jars (pint or quart), wire jar hangers or floral wire and twine, sharp clippers, a watering can.

Steps:

  1. Prep the roses: remove thorns and leaves below the waterline. Cut 1 in. off at an angle and let them drink for at least 4 hours.
  2. Set the hooks at the end of every other row on both sides of the aisle, all facing the aisle. Press each in at least 6 in.
  3. Hang the jars: attach a wire hanger to each jar, or wrap floral wire under the rim and twist a loop. One jar per hook.
  4. Add water once hanging, about halfway, so the jars are lighter to carry.
  5. Arrange: cut each stem so the blooms sit just above the rim. Add about 15 stems per jar in a round dome.
  6. Finish: wrap twine around the jar neck and check that all jars hang at the same height.

Tips: on hard ground, use hooks with a weighted base. If it's windy, use floral wire instead of twine. Set up hooks and jars early and add flowers and water last.

Blood Red Rose Centerpieces

Blood Red Rose Centerpieces: low gold bowls of blood red roses

Made with: 300 Blood Red Ecuadorian Roses
Uses: about 12 low centerpieces, 25 roses each · Skill: Easy to intermediate · Time: 2 hours

What you'll need: 12 low gold or ivory bowls (6–8 in. wide), 12 floral foam bricks cut to fit, green floral tape, sharp clippers or rose strippers, a serrated knife.

Steps:

  1. Prep the roses: strip thorns and every leaf below the waterline. Cut 1 in. off at an angle and let them drink in deep water for at least 4 hours.
  2. Soak the foam by floating it until it sinks on its own. Never push it under.
  3. Fit the foam: trim each brick so it sits about 1 in. below the rim, and tape it if it shifts.
  4. Cut to length: stems at 6–8 in. for low bowls.
  5. Outer ring: push 8 roses around the edge, angled outward about 45 degrees, blooms just over the rim.
  6. Middle ring: add 10 roses inside, pointing more upward, heads level with the first ring.
  7. Center: add the last 7 roses tightly so no foam shows and the top forms a round dome.
  8. Check each bowl from all sides and fix any gaps. Each bowl should have 25 roses.
  9. Hold finished bowls in a cool room, out of direct sun, with the foam damp.

Tips: set 4 bowls on 6 in. risers for depth. Keep 10 spare roses in water for swaps. Set the centerpieces 2–3 hours before guests arrive so the petals stay bright.

Jewel Aisle

Jewel Aisle with blue orchids and green dianthus

Made with: 300 Blue Dendrobium Orchids · 300 Green Ball Dianthus
Uses: about 16 aisle clusters · Skill: Easy to intermediate · Time: 2 hours

What you'll need: 16 low foam blocks in plastic-lined trays, sharp clippers, buckets, a spray bottle, clear tape or floral pins (optional).

Steps:

  1. Prep the flowers: cut 1 in. off each stem at an angle. Keep orchids out of the fridge and away from cold drafts. Let everything drink for 4 hours.
  2. Soak the foam until it sinks on its own.
  3. Plan the spacing: about 16 clusters, roughly 18–20 dianthus and 18–20 orchids each, one at the end of every other row on both sides.
  4. Build the dianthus base: cut to 2–3 in. and press close together into a low, round mound.
  5. Add the orchids: leave stems 8–12 in. long, pushed in at an angle so the sprays reach toward the aisle. Turn blooms toward the guests.
  6. Place the clusters at the row ends, all angled the same way.
  7. Finish: mist lightly before guests arrive.

Tips: blue orchids are dyed and can rub off, so keep them off white runners and dresses. Make the clusters nearest the altar slightly bigger. Build the morning of, or the night before if kept cool.

Round Moongate Arch

Round Moongate Arch with peach gerberas and orange spray roses

Made with: 300 Large Peach Gerbera Daisies · 300 Orange Spray Roses
Uses: one round ceremony arch · Skill: Intermediate, best with 2 people · Time: 2½ hours

What you'll need: round arch on a stand (6–7 ft), 14–18 foam cages, 12 in. zip ties, sharp clippers, buckets, a spray bottle, sandbags if outdoors.

Steps:

  1. Prep the flowers: cut 1 in. off at an angle. Gerberas go in 2–3 in. of water, roses in deeper water. Strip rose leaves and thorns. Let them drink 4 hours.
  2. Soak the cages until they sink on their own.
  3. Set up the arch in its final spot and weigh the base.
  4. Attach the cages: zip-tie one every 8–10 in. down the left side, about 10–12 cages, plus 3–4 at the upper right for the smaller cluster.
  5. Place the Peach Gerberas first at 3–4 in., angled outward, widest in the middle of the left side.
  6. Fill with Orange Spray Roses at 3 in., tucked between the gerberas, with a few buds poking past the edges.
  7. Check from the front at about 15 ft and fill any gaps.
  8. Finish: mist lightly and keep in shade until the ceremony.

Tips: extra stems make matching bud vases for the reception. Keep the right cluster about a third the size of the left. Build the morning of.

White Rose Ceremony Arch

White Rose Ceremony Arch: white roses and green dianthus on a full arch

Made with: 300 White Roses × 2 · 300 Green Ball Dianthus
Uses: one full ceremony arch with flowers pooled at the base · Skill: Intermediate, best with 2 people · Time: 3 hours

What you'll need: ceremony arch (about 7 ft), 20–24 foam cages, 4 low foam trays or bricks, 12 in. zip ties, sharp clippers or a floral knife, 3–4 buckets, a spray bottle, sandbags if outdoors.

Steps:

  1. Prep the flowers: strip thorns and leaves below the waterline, cut 1 in. off at an angle, and let them drink 4 hours in deep water.
  2. Soak the foam until it sinks on its own.
  3. Set up the arch in its final spot first, with sandbags if outdoors.
  4. Attach the cages: zip-tie one every 8–10 in. across the top, then down both sides to about 4 ft.
  5. Fill the back with dianthus: cut to 2–3 in. and press into every cage until about two-thirds of the foam is covered.
  6. Add the white roses on the front: cut to 4–5 in. and push about 1½ in. in, angled outward, a hand-width apart, so the white sits over the green.
  7. Fill the gaps with the remaining white roses, varying the depths so the arch stays soft.
  8. Build the base: 2 foam trays at each leg with leftover flowers spilling outward.
  9. Check from 15 ft and fill any bare spots.
  10. Finish: mist lightly and keep out of direct sun until the ceremony.

Tips: build the morning of, no more than 4–6 hours before the ceremony. Keep 20–30 spare white roses nearby, and swap out any bloom with a brown edge. Handle blooms by the stem, not the petals.
